WHO WE ARE

The mission of MAPAS is to create opportunities for historically underrepresented communities to engage in outdoor activities and build a community through shared support and experiences. Additionally, we aim to educate one another on environmental issues and foster a sense of stewardship for the outdoors.

Through these efforts, we hope to give individuals the resources to feel more confident in their own ventures in outdoor spaces. Here at MAPAS we recognize the social and physical health benefits that come with spending time in nature and want to promote the accessibility of that for all individuals.

Although outdoor spaces are open to anyone, many public lands that we enjoy were stolen from Indigenous people and have carried a history of racism and exclusivity since then. The club is open to anyone who shares our vision and mission to promote inclusivity and diversity in outdoor recreation.

WHAT WE DO

ORGANIZE financially accessible and inclusive events for individuals to try out an activity without a financial burden with hopes of creating a sense of awe for the outdoors

EMPOWER our members to be their best selves and positively encourage them to challenge themselves

EDUCATE members on relevant environmental and sustainable issues to form a sense of responsibility for our community and the environment

CARE for our community by hosting events where we maintain, restore, and clean up our community and our natural community. Also by providing outreach to the local Isla Vista Community
